Following the previous posting about the UHP Fitting Series, we'll introduce valves.

| Valve Operation Principle
Fundamentally, valves control the flow rate, pressure, and direction of fluid and serve to open and close flow paths. For instance, a gas valve commonly seen around us operates by turning the valve handle in line with the piping direction. This action causes the ball inside the valve to rotate in the direction of the pipeline, allowing gas to flow when the valve is opened. Conversely, when the valve is closed, the ball rotates 90˚, completely sealing off the internal passage.

Valves vary in materials and operating mechanisms depending on the environment. For household gas piping, where gas is handled at low pressure and at room temperature, *ball valves are commonly used.

* Ball Valve : A type of valve that contains a perforated ball among its components.
UHP valves, used in clean environments such as semiconductor, pharmaceutical, food, and cosmetics manufacturing, have different characteristics from typical ball valves. While the premise of controlling fluid flow remains the same, they are broadly classified into the following three types based on their applications.

A diaphragm valve has a partition inside the valve, and the partition moves up and down depending on the movement of the valve handle, controlling the flow of fluid. For larger valves, the wide range of movement of the diaphragm makes it easy to understand the operating principle. Similarly, DK-Lok's UHP diaphragm valve operates on the same principle. Semiconductor diaphragm valves are smaller in size compared to those used in general industries and block the flow of fluid manually or automatically. The diaphragm is made of Ni-Co Alloy (Elgiloy), providing strength and corrosion resistance for optimal lifespan. The seat, made of PCTFE (polychlorotrifluoroethylene), proof excellent chemical resistance and heat resistance of -10 to 80°C, making it suitable for UHP environments.

Additionally, DK-Lok's diaphragm valves are structurally optimized to minimize the generation of particles and have excellent sealing with internal and external leakage rates below 1 x 10-9 atm.cc/s.

For reference, atm.cc/s represents the amount of helium leaked per second under a pressure of 1 atmosphere, expressed in cc. 1 x 10⁻⁹ atm.cc/s indicates minimal leakage.

Due to the minimization of particles and excellent sealing, DK-Lok's diaphragm valve is the most suitable for UHP environments. Various sealing materials are available to select the appropriate seat based on changes in fluid type, temperature, etc.

A bellows valve incorporates a flexible metal bellows tube internally, which expands and contracts repeatedly according to user manipulation.

The bellows valve has a structurally more complex feature compared to the diaphragm valve, which is related to the operating mechanism of the bellows valve. By inserting bellows (corrugated tubes) inside the valve, leakage is prevented from the body (Packing Box). As the bellows expand and contract repeatedly according to user manipulation, the probability of leakage is minimized, and it can handle a higher flow rate compared to a diaphragm valve.

Due to these structural advantages and high sealing capability, bellows valves are widely used in environments where fluid leakage prevention is crucial, such as chemically corrosive environments, hazardous, toxic, vacuum environments, and applications requiring high flow rates.

A valve actuator is a device used to operate valves to control the movement of fluids. This device is used when manual operation is impractical due to repetitive operating cycles or when precise control of material flow is required. External power may be used to move the valve to the desired position, and in semiconductor applications, pneumatic actuators are primarily used.

Pneumatic actuators are divided into two types: Normal Open and Normal Close. In Normal Open, the valve is normally open, allowing fluid to flow, and when air is supplied to the actuator, it operates, causing the valve to close and block the fluid. Conversely, in Normal Close, the valve is normally closed, preventing fluid flow, and when air is supplied to the actuator, it operates, causing the valve to open, allowing fluid to flow.

| Check Valve
Valves are used in environments where fluid flow may be bi-directional. Check valves are used to fundamentally block fluid inflow from one direction.

For example, when devices such as pumps or compressors stop operating, backflow of fluid in motion may occur, potentially causing equipment malfunctions. Check valves are commonly used to prevent this. There are no operating parts for controlling fluid flow, and UHP check valves are welded rather than threaded to minimize particles.

DK-Lok's check valves are reinforced for internal corrosion resistance using alloy steels such as 316L and Hastelloy, enhancing operational stability with an optimized lifespan assurance design. Additionally, they are designed without internal springs or threads, and the use of external welding minimizes particles and prevents leakage effectively.

All DK-Lok UHP valves undergo the following tests:

| DK-Lok Quality Tests

■ Cv Test
The Cv (Coefficient of Flow) Test is performed to quantify and evaluate the fluid flow characteristics of the valve. Valves are used to control fluid flow in various industries, and the Cv value indicates the capacity of a specific fluid to pass through the valve.

■ He Leak Test
The Helium Leak Test is conducted to detect and minimize fluid or gas leakage within the product. This test is particularly crucial in semiconductor products, where even minor leaks can cause significant performance issues. By using helium gas to inspect internal and external leaks, the reliability of the product is ensured.

■ Particle Test
The Particle Test focuses on ensuring that there are no impurities or particles inside the valve by flowing N2 gas through the product. Impurities or particles can have a negative impact on the reliability and performance of semiconductor products, making the Particle Test a critical procedure for ensuring product quality.

These are the main UHP valves from DK-Lok.

If you are interested in DK-Lok products, please inquire or click the link below to visit the product information page.
Go to UHP Valves Information DK-Lok Co., Ltd. holds all rights to the materials provided by DK-Lok Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "DK-Lok Co., Ltd. materials")
andthese materials are protected by copyright law. Unauthorized reproduction and distribution of materials provided on the web service are generally prohibited.
